I may be a murderer, but I'm no lesbian

Karla Homolka's a torturer, a rapist, and a murderer, but there's a limit.

"The documents made public Friday [during the hearing which saw restrictions posed on her life after release from prison], also touch on a homosexual relationship Homolka had for three years at the Joliette Institution with Lynda Veronneau, serving a sentence for a series of armed robberies. When she was released, Veronneau re-offended so she could be sent back to Joliette to be with Homolka," reads this morning's Montreal Gazette. (More on Lynda Veronneau here).

"While being evaluated in 2000, Homolka told [psychiatrist Robert] Menzies that she did not consider the relationship to be homosexual.

"'Veronneau saw herself as a man and planned to undergo a sex operation in due course,' the psychiatrist wrote."

The shrink's report continues: "'She was not sure their relationship would last once she [Homolka] was released because they had different values. As an example, [Homolka] said she would never give up her freedom for the relationship, as Veronneau had done when she engineered a return to prison to be with [Homolka].'

"[Psychiatrist Louis] Morisette notes in his report that Homolka was ashamed of the relationship and hid it from her parents and the experts who examined her. The psychiatrist mentions in his report that under the circumstances, the relationship was not abnormal."
