Sad news...

But not unexpected: "They might look deathly," reports the newest Maclean's, "but the pallid makeup, black hair, jewellery and piercings that are the trademarks of Goths do not mean your children are on the early road to ruin. A study by the University of Sussex in England has concluded that, unlike punks, Goths grow up to be lawyers, doctors and other professionals. Researchers say the look is merely a rebellious interregnum in an otherwise middle-class life."

Somebody at Maclean's likes'em pale and dressed in frilly blacks. From the April 24 edition: "Yet another study of death-faced Goths suggests they are more likely to harm themselves than other young people. A University of Glasgow study says that while seven to 14 percent of young people deliberately harm themselves, those who identify with Goth culture have a stronger predilection toward hurting themselves. Despite another recent study that said Goths tend to become happily adjusted adult professionals, the Scottish study found a "lifetime prevalence" of self-harm among the morbid-looking young people."
