A Canadian queer media contact list
last updated June 30, 2005Want to pitch your story to the GLBT media? Have an event that the community needs to know about? Pining to reconnect with the neighbourgood in which you used to live? I've collected a contact list of queer Canadian media, print and online. Add or change details (or gawd forbid, delete a defunct publication) by
e-mailing me.I'm also creating a separate list of GLBT community television and radio shows across this large country, so please help me with a quick note about whatever shows you know of!
And hey, no favorites -- these aren't listed in any particular order.

QUEER NOTESCanada has one queer syndicated column, "Three Dollar Bill," written by Montreal-based
Richard Burnett (home base is alt weekly
Hour). The column also runs in alt publications Current (Newfoundland), Here (St. John, Moncton and Fredericton), Vue Weekly (Edmonton), and the queer The Gazette (in Tampa Bay in the U.S.).
Gilles Marchildon, the executive director of the lobby group
Egale Canada, also has a column appearing in the Winnipeg's alt Uptown, and in the queer pubs To Be, Fugues (in French), Wayves, and Perceptions.
For those thinking of starting up a queer media outlet, you might want to consider advertising (depending on the scope of your endeavour). The New Jersey-based
Rivendell Media represents almost all print media outlets in Canada and the United States on the national advertising sales front. (Rivendell pays me to publish a newsletter; that conflict doesn't change the fact that it really is the most important GLBT media ad sales company on the continent.)
What's that, you said? A queer media newsletter? Rivendell publishes
Press Pass Q (which I edit at time of writing). Press Pass Q is an online trade publication for those in the GLBT media. It's free to subscribe.
